There isn’t a summer that mosquitoes don’t get a feasting on me. Doesn’t matter where I spend those months of heat, I always get bitten for mosquitoes, even in cold Island I would get the bite of the only mosquito in the room.

Nowadays there are more and more effective remedies to relieve the itchiness of those bites, but the ideal situation would be to don’t get any bite. I know, I know that’s kind of impossible, but there are few tricks to repel those bites I would like to share with you.

Avoid perfume, sweat and dirt

Mosquitoes are able to pick up your essence from up to 45 meters away. So the more essence you got, the easier for them to find you. They are attracted to all kinds of fragrances, from perfumes to sweat, so avoid using heavy perfumes and hit the shower as quick as possible after sweating.

Mosquitos can’t bite you if they can’t see you

Camouflage yourself under long sleeves and long pants. Also white and light colors make it harder to find us.

Blow them away

Point a fan or two around the patio to create an insect-deterring breeze. Bugs have a harder time landing on you if there’s wind interrupting their attempts to land.

Mosquito repelling plants

Try to remove all standing water sources from your garden and keep gutters lean. Also plant lemon balm and marigolds in your backyard.

Implement these tricks in your summer days and enjoy a life without mosquito bites!
