Health & Wellness Trends for 2018

Collagen

So excited to see how wellness and health concern are growing year after year. People is more careful when shopping, eating and they are taking care, more and more, of their exercise routine. Natural food, cruelty free cosmetic and having a greener life is more accessible than ever.

2016 was the year of the clean labelling, meaning products are minimally processed, natural, organic and free from toxic chemicals. In 2017 we meet the ketosis diet and it was all about fermented ingredients and plant protein.

As an expert in the health and food industry, here are my top food and nutrition trends for this 2018.

Good bacteria and much more for our gut health

We already know about the importance of maintaining the balance of good and bad bacteria in our gut, about probiotics and prebiotics. This year we will learn about the beneficial role of gut fungi and their bright side, despite their bad reputation (mostly because Candida).

Natural beauty

Consumers are already interested in knowing where their food comes from and exactly what’s in it. Well, this year is the turn for natural beauty. Promoting ingredients transparency and banning certain chemicals will be very important in the coming year. Small natural brands had earn their place in the market with ‘better for you’ products. Now, are big companies who are adapting to the new demands of the costumers.

Collagen

Collagen is a protein found naturally in our bones, joints, cartilages and skin. Collagen helps give our skin strength and elasticity, it replace dead skin cells and it’s the ‘glue’ that helps hold the body together.

The natural production of collagen decreases as we age. That’s why we get face wrinkles, sagging skin and joint pains. Our lifestyle, diet, exercise, sun exposure… can also contribute to drain collagen levels.

Supplemental collagen is great also for gut-healing, immune system and more. That’s way everyone is adding the superfood to their smoothie! Although, bone broth is the richest natural source of collagen.

Intermittent fasting

Our ancestors couldn’t rich food always they wanted, refrigerators didn’t exist or even any storage system. And Intermittent fasting kind of want to imitate that way of living.

Scientists are now discovering the benefits of intermittent fasting, it’s good not just for weight lost, but also for a better blood sugar balance, less inflammation or a better cognitive function.

You could go from a 5 day fasting diet (practiced under supervision) to a simple 14 hour fasting (between dinner and breakfast)

Digital Detoxification

Social media is a wonderful way to stay connected but also it can make you feel less socially fulfilled and stressed out.

Many of us are addicted to our phones, we love having more and more followers and more and more likes, but on the same time we are feeling more lonely and far from our real social life. Thanks to cognitive therapy, that addiction is reversible. Apps like Moment or Forest are great efforts to helps us with that detoxification, one set a limit on the number of times you can check you devices and the other plants trees when you spend certain hours off your phone. Love it 💚
