After many years living with myself, studying my habits, my thoughts, I can see clearly a not really good pattern on me.

I tend to live periods of life when I am able to take super healthy decisions, I take care of myself physically and mentally, I am peaceful and in control. While there are others that even knowing what foods work best for me, what decisions I should take, and all the healthy habits I should do, I am unable to take and I end up succumbing to unhealthy decisions.

Nowadays, looking back I can see those moments when I was in control coincide with a calm and peace moment of my life. While when I was unable to make healthy choices was when I was living stressful, busy and unmotivated periods of my life.

And the truth is, proved by researches at Oxford University, that the more mentally stressed we are, the harder it becomes to make healthy decisions.

We all run around very busy, working, meetings, sending emails, cleaning, appointments, social life, travels… Some activities are more stressful than other, but all them take mental space, pushing to the back of our mind those healthy choices. That’s why we go for a piece of cake instead of a piece of fruit. Cake is more emotionally rewarding but less cognitively than a piece of fruit, which is the opposite.

Living a holistic lifestyle is tricky, it takes constant practice, I am still trying and discovering new ‘aha’ moments every day, that make me understand and realize many things about myself.

Together I am sure we can motivate ourselves and create space allowing us to make decisions that will make us feel better, lighter and more confident, helping us to live the life we want.

Hope these simple tricks helps you to keep on track. Although we are all different and probably you already have other ways to grow your motivation, please share them in the comments below, I would love to read them!
