Make the most of your last weeks of summer

August is the month when most people in Spain take holidays. In the old days, many companies closed all August, forcing to their employees go on family vacations. The empty streets in the larger cities and the overcrowded beaches are a classic.

My family was a bit different, we were lucky enough my father could take holidays any time of the year, so we used to go one week in June and another two weeks in September. It was so cool, we could enjoy the beach and sunshine at cheaper prices and also more relaxed without the multitude. But the coolest thing was that when everyone was crying because their holidays were finished, we still had 14 days of freedom and happiness (and our tan would last much longer 😋). I know, it can sound a bit cruel, and also when you are a kid you still enjoy holidays until mid September, but you know what I mean… Is can not compare, holidays at your beach destination than in an apartment in Madrid…

All that experiences with late holidays have made me appreciate and enjoy the 3 long months that summer season last, even as an adult who now is taking working holidays in August.

And because I want you to take the most of these last weeks of summer, I’ve elaborated a short list of things you can have fun even after your official beach trips had finished.

Enjoy an outdoor concert

June, July, August and September are full of outdoor events in Barcelona. Concerts, outdoor movies, theater… Some are free and some are not, but you still can soak up a bit of culture while you enjoy nature. I’m sure you also can find this kind of entertainment in many other larger cities.

Enjoy a day at your greenest park

If you live in a coast city as Barcelona, you can still enjoy days off by the beach. If you don’t have the sea near you, don’t worry, take a book and indulge yourself with a day in a park surrounded by green, it is as relaxing as battery charging.

Meet your friends afterwork

September is still a warm and bright month here in Spain so don’t go home afterwork. Instead call your friends or someone you love and go for a drink or a meal outdoors.

Enjoy the rainy days

September brings autumn and more raining days to our daily lives. I love a good gray and rainy day, staying at home, watching movies or preparing something delicious. But when it’s still summer I find so much fun go out there in bikini and flip-flops and get soaked. A wonderful freedom feeling invades me and makes me feel sooo good.

Take an adventure

Before starts to get dark sooner and weather gets cooler, enjoy an outdoor physical activity. Take a hike in your closest hill and feel the chill wind in your face or if you are a sea lover, go for a ride on a boat, choose a lake, ocean or bay and have fun navigating the waves.
